The Searchers

Director John Ford helmed many great films in the golden era of Hollywood and one particular movie came pretty close to perfection- The Searchers. Based on the novel by Alan Le May, the searchers take place right after the Civil War, where Ethan Edwards (John Wayne) returns home to settle with his brother's family. On a turn of events, Ethan's brother Aaron and family are murdered by Comanches and kidnap his only daughter, Debbie (Natalie Wood). Filled with vengeance, Ethan, along with his nephew Martin (Jeffry Hunter) embark on a mission to find Debbie and bring her home. If you want to know what the definition of a "western", this movie will be next to it every time. It's one of the duke's finest performances, and it is still considered one of the greatest films ever made.
