Audie Murphy

During the Golden Era of Hollywood, it was not uncommon to find your silver screen heroes on the battlegrounds of Europe, Asia, and northern Africa. Many actors dropped the makeup and picked up a rifle to answer the call of freedom. One man in particular went beyond the call- Audie Murphy. Murphy was a country boy from Texas, but after Pearl Harbor, he decided to enlist in the military. Murphy originally had his sister falsify his birth documentation so he could meet the minimum age requirement. Initially, he was turned down by the Army, Navy, and Marines due to being underweight, but eventually, the Army accepted him. In 1945 Murphy was given the Medal of Honor for his heroics in Germany. Murphy had a successful film career, but we cannot forget his selfless acts on the battlefield.
